Not All Work and No Play with the FFA

By Betty Holcomb

Clay County FFA students have been hard at work and play over the past few weeks.  The group recently celebrated FFA week with neighboring Roane County students where they enjoyed line dancing, basketball, and extreme duck, duck, goose.

Saturday they held a “muddiest vehicle” competition at the high school.  Judges Trey Corwell, Wesley Armes, and Andy Bragg had their work cut out for them judging some pretty muddy vehicles.  Winners were 1st– Braden Black, 2nd-Corey McKinney, and 3rd– Jason Starcher.

Not all play, the Ag Mechanics class is now fully trained and becoming efficient. With help from a mini modernization grant, the Mechanics class was able to purchase a firewood processor.  This is a purchase that fits the program, community needs and allows students to earn money through the school based SAEs. This allows for firewood to be sold very soon as well as plenty of cured wood for purchase next fall.
