Mrs. Okal Dale Dorsey, age 94, of Maysel, WV, passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2022. She was born on March 8, 1928, to late Otis and Tencie Boggs Johnson in Groves Creek, Clay County. She married Robert Lee Dorsey Sr. in 1946. They went on to have two children, Joyce Amber and Robert Lee Jr. She went on to live a very full and active life while always helping others.
She was family focused and she worried and took care of them until the end, sometimes to the exclusion of her own needs. She gave without asking for anything in return. Her love of helping others led her to become an LPN in 1977. She worked at the Nicholas County Nursing Center and the Extended Care Facility in Summersville, WV for the majority of her nursing career.
Okal loved working in her yard, playing Yahtzee, reading, working puzzles, Long John Silvers, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, Murder She Wrote, Perry Mason, Wyler’s Peach Drink, popcorn, good coffee (especially with company), the American Flag, The Gaithers, gatherings with family, shopping, pedicures, short curly perms, her cat Barney, Tina her little dog, pink nail polish, Shoney’s buffet, her grandchildren, helping her family, laughter, telling stories from the past and playing slots with her sisters.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Tencie Johnson; husband, Robert L. Dorsey Sr (1974); daughter, Joyce Amber Dorsey (1996); great granddaughter, Dahlia Dowell; brothers, Herron Johnson and Harry Johnson; and sisters, Evelyn Baker, Lelia McCune, Alice Bangert, and Brenda LaCorte
She is survived by her son, Robert L. Dorsey Jr (Nancy) of Maysel, WV; her sister, Reva Shifflett (Tom) of Baltimore, MD; her brother, Kenneth R Johnson (Jan) of Charleston, WV; grandchildren, Robert L. Dorsey III of Maysel, Michael Dorsey (Mary Beth) of Maysel, William E Smith of Blairsville, GA, and Amber Smith Kingry (Phillip) of Cleveland, GA; 10 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at Johnson Family Cemetery, Groves Creek, WV, with Minister Phillip Kingry officiating.
