Students from across the state participated in the Future Leaders Program (FLP) South Competition on April 26, 2022.  This competition was geared toward enhancing leadership skills and teaches High School students valuable skills like preparing for an emergency, working as a team, along with other life skills.

FLP was founded under the National Guard as a one or multi-year program to improve post high school success and encourage students to stay in West Virginia.

Destiny Mullins, a 17-year-old Junior at Clay County High School, is a member of FLP and had this to say when asked about being involved in this organization. “I got involved with the program as a filler class at first, but after I got into the program it was super fun and it teaches you a lot of life skills. It helps you bring out a better version of yourself and taught me to stand out and be myself. This program has taught me a lot of sills that I can carry on through the rest of my life and ones that I can use daily.”

Destiny says she would encourage others to join FLP, as it teaches you beneficial life skills and how to stand out, hence their motto: “Be as loud as you want”
