Clay County Schools is once again recognizing the teachers and students with the highest attendance in the district. For the fifth school month, two classrooms at Lizemore Elementary are being honored: Mrs. Chastity Morris, 2nd grade and Mrs. Sabrina Grose, 5th grade. Each class received a framed certificate honoring their achievement.
Mrs. Morris’ second grade class achieved the highest attendance rate in the county with 96.38%. An eleven-year teaching veteran, Mrs. Morris has spent the last six years of her career working at Lizemore Elementary. When asked how she motivates students to attend so regularly, Mrs. Morris mentioned that she provides weekly prizes for students with perfect attendance, as well as rewards students who achieve academic benchmarks. She values students’ input in choosing incentives that will motivate them the most and feels it is important to reward students who reach learning milestones.
Mrs. Grose has been employed as a substitute teacher by Clay County Schools for three years. Most of that time she has spent working at Lizemore Elementary. This month she and her fifth grade students have achieved the second highest attendance rate in the district (96.18%). Similar to Mrs. Morris, Mrs. Grose rewards weekly perfect attendance by allowing students to choose a prize from the classroom prize box.
An additional incentive students with perfect attendance have to look forward to each month is an ice cream party. Mrs. Kasey Brown, Communities In Schools Facilitator at Lizemore Elementary, makes arrangements for these special days each month. Enjoying this treat for the fifth school month will be 15 of Mrs. Morris’ students and 10 of Mrs. Grose’s students.
Congratulations to Mrs. Morris, Mrs. Grose, and their second and fifth grade students!
Class of 1960. Proud of this school.
