On Thursday, Sept. 9, the WVU Braxton/Clay County Master Gardeners travelled to Ovapa, West Virginia. Club member and Treasurer Suzie Legg arranged a tour of Sugar Bottom Farm. Club members pictured are Aine and her husband Tony Slabaugh, Melissa Dennison, Christi Boggs, Mariam and her husband Tim Hopkins, Rene Tyo, and Suzie Legg. We joined Eric, his wife Mary and their daughter Abagail Grandon, also pictured, at their home and business, Sugar Bottom Farm.
Eric Grandon is a veteran and entrepreneur. He and his family started a honey bee business on their family farm. Mr. Grandon gave a very interesting and informative talk and taught individuals on beekeeping. He informed the group on how honeybees play an important part in pollination. Without our honeybees we would lose hundreds of various produce items, trees and nut varieties.
Mr. Grandon has all the necessary equipment as well as bees available for purchase. He even grows bees. You can go to their website at SBFHoney.com to see more information and their products. Honeybees are a vital part of human survival.
The Gardeners thank you and your family for starting this amazing business and for hosting the group. The group also thanked Mr. Grandon for his military service.
