Tucked away in the town of Clendenin is a little diner that is sure to take you back to a simpler time. Momma Payne’s Diner, owned by Andrea Underwood, is a special place that many gather at for morning coffee, a good meal, and great company.
Andrea’s parents owned the dinner before the devastating flood of 2016, where it was located a little ways down the street from where it sets now. Andrea, with her strong hometown roots, wanted to re-open and revamp the dinner into a place where it felt like family. She believed it was important to the community to have a place that was family friendly. She has done just that, and is serving many regulars daily. Many say they would rather come eat in the diner than cook at home since it feels like home to them.
You can depend on Momma Payne’s in any circumstance, and that is what sets them out from the rest. In the event of a flood, storm, etc., you can find Andrea opening to feed the fire department, police officers, and other first responders. When a community member passes, she’s there to help. When a sports team needs sponsorship, Momma Payne’s is there. When COVID hit, the diner remained open with limited items and restrictions to make sure people were fed. Family nights are offered for free family fun and to bring people together.
Momma Payne’s serves local beef provided by Liedman’s, offers Hershey’s ice cream, a variety of Walnut Creek products, and much more. Stop in and enjoy a great meal, great company, and great memories at Momma Payne’s. Open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Closed Sundays.
