The Clay County Landmarks Commission and Historical Society met April 7, 2021 in the Clay County Library. Present were Jannette Douglas, Janet Koch, Karen H. Burdette, Jerry Stover, Betty Robinson, Jim Miller, Eloise Boggs, Sandra Claybrook, and guest Kim Johnson.
Kim, who worked with Goldenseal Magazine for a number of years, has just recently published a book, Clendenin, West Virginia, Images of the Past. The book contains 221 pages of photos depicting Clendenin’s history, covering 15 different categories. The book has been a best seller for folks who are acquainted with the town. She is offering to put together a similar collection of photos of Clay’s history. Yes, we are interested, and the Historical Society will be asking for old photographs as more definite plans are made.
Topics discussed informally before the meeting was officially called to order:
- The need for policies and protocol of the various activities of the Historical Society.
- The feasibility of publishing a fifth edition of Clay County Cemeteries.
- Our website: Danny Dawson has offered to meet with interested persons in the lower room of the library for training on the status and use of the website.
- Now & Then: our newsletter. Betty has offered to help with editing, if needed.
Jerry called the meeting to order and the minutes of the March meeting were approved and Sandra gave the treasurer’s report.
The next meeting was held on Wednesday, May 5, at 1 p.m. in the lower room of the library.
