The USDA and Save the Children teamed up to bless Clay County and the surrounding areas with blessing boxes. These boxes were distributed to anyone, with no income requirements needed. A team of Clay County residents gave out 1,300 blessing boxes at the Clay County High School, and local volunteers even took time to deliver boxes to those in need.
The USDA Farmer’s to Families program partnered with Clay County Schools to ensure that children and their families in received these boxes filled with produce, milk, meat, fruit, and dairy products. This group of individuals proudly worked alongside Save the Children to do their part to help curb hunger during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Save the Children and Farmer’s to Families started this food drive on October 1, 2020, distributing over 25,000 food boxes to rural communities across Kentucky, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia.
“We know that coronavirus continues to have significant, detrimental impacts on children and families across America, particularly those who depend on school for meals. Save the Children is proud to be part of the solution to ensure fresh food reaches rural communities,” said Betsy Zorio, Vice President of U.S. Programs Advocacy at Save the Children.
