This past Thursday night was homecoming night for the CCMS Mustangs. The Mustangs continued their dominating ground and pound style of football by defeating the Braxton Knights by the score of 30-10. It certainly wasn’t a picnic for the Mustangs as the Knights came in with all barrels firing. They were determined to make up for last season when the Mustangs rolled over them, causing the coach to throw in the towel for the season. This year was different; even though the Knights had just enough players to hit the field, they gave the Mustangs a good game. However, it was still nothing short of a domination of the gridiron by the Mustangs. The Knights, at one time late in the second quarter, came out with a run pattern that kept the Mustang defense scratching their heads and allowed the lone TD for the Knights. Afterwards, with a good pep talk from the coaches and a change in the defense, success for the Knights was gone. They no more would grace the end zone with their presence.
Mustang offense and defense stepped up and racked up points on the board. The Knights didn’t throw the ball too many times, and it was either picked off or some great defense broke up the play. They relied heavily on their running game which was completely shut down by the Mustang defense. At the end of the half, the Mustangs were leading by the score of 30-8, and by the end of the game, two more points were added by the Knights in the second half making it 30-10. That’s where it ended with the Mustangs once again proving that they are a force to reckon with.
At the half, it was time to announce the 2020 Football Homecoming Queen and King of CCMS. The cheerleaders lined up in formation to welcome the new queen and king to the field as tunes played in the wind. The 6th, 7th and 8th grade princesses, along with their princes, strolled onto the field as each was announced by Allen Tanner. This year, due to Covid-19 protocol, the queen and king were determined prior to the game. The new queen, Lakyn Elliot, along with her court, graced the football field and graciously accepted the crown as CCMS principal Leslie Goe placed it on her head. Landon Humphrey was crowned CCMS Homecoming King. These newly crowned royalty of CCMS will no doubt wear their crowns well and represent the school with pride. Congratulations to the new Queen and King and their court. The homecoming court included 6th grade princess Alivia Gilliland escorted by T.J. Pritt, 7th grade princess Zoey Sparks escorted by Eli Dorsey and 8th grade princess Gracey Champ escorted by Ayden Brown. They all represented the school and their families splendidly. Once again, congratulations to the queen and her court.
