Charles Ford Deems, 81, of Clay, passed away August 26, 2019 at CAMC Memorial Hospital.

He was born December 5, 1937 in Ira, WV, a son of the late Charles Walter Deems and Gaynell Esther Wood.

Charles helped his neighbors doing different jobs for them including splitting wood.  He was a gardener. He was a fantastic cook and enjoyed cooking and baking cornbread.  He enjoyed deer hunting and being outdoors.  He worked as a heavy equipment operator and in a sawmill over the years of his life.

He is survived by his companion, Matilda Duffield; brother, Danville Deems and wife, Charlotte of Indore; sister, Letha Cantrell of Gassaway.

A graveside service was held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at Deems-Duffield Cemetery at Clay, with Reverend Wayne Litton officiating.
