Deputy Robert Belt, Collin Grose, and Patrick Morris are pictured with some of the preschool kids at H.E. White. The officers visited the school for the Week of the Young Child, where the kids got to participate in special events throughout the week.

The preschool class at H.E. White Elementary had a very hands-on week.  They participated in the Week of the Young Child, where special events were conducted every day.  Many volunteers came in to participate in the week’s events.

Teacher Rheenetta Bennett and aide Loretta Triplett organized this event, and the children were excited to do lots of different things throughout the week. The week started off with musical Monday, where local resident Randy Noel showed the kids guitars he hand-crafted from different boxes.  Mr. Noel even donated an original piece to the classroom.

Tasty Tuesday was next, with Jeannie Evans, owner of the Frostbite Restaurant in Clendenin, coming to the school to speak with the kids.  She discussed plate and food portions,  and also spoke about healthy food choices.  Jeannie says they were all so excited to tell her about the lettuce in the green house they were growing, and to tell what each of their favorite foods was.  Ms. Pam’s spaghetti topped the list for many students. They spoke about how it is important to try and eat food the way it grows, rather than processing it in certain ways, and were surprised to learn that fruit was better for you than the juice you get.

“It was definitely a fun day with hugs from every child,” said Jeannie.

Deputy Robert Belt came in on Wednesday with Collin Grose and Patrick Morris to speak to the class about safety issues. To finish up the week’s fun, on Thursday area resident Tabitha Adkins helped the students use various materials to make art projects.
