Local painting instructor Quincy Potasnik was recently invited to be a volunteer community judge for the Carter Hall art projects and presentations.

This was held by the West Virginia University Institute of Technology’s Department of History, English, & Creative Arts by the Adjunct Art Appreciation professor, Brent Woodward.

Nine semi-finalist students were selected over the Fall 2018 and Spring 2019 semesters to be included in the competition.  Potasnik was shown all nine pieces, digitally or in person, and was to select the top three finalists and rank first, second, and third place.

At the reception held on Tuesday, April 23, in Carter Hall, the winners were announced at the school’s annual Spring Fling. This event was a fun-filled day of activities, and visitors were able to view the semi-finalist’s work. Quincy’s Studio was acknowledged at the awards ceremony, which made a big impression. Quincy and her studio, The Tiny Sparrow Art Studio & Happy Place, were honored and represented well at this reception, where Dr. Stephen Brown said, “It is definitely a happy place.”

The winners of this event were: third place, Kaitlyn M. Lilly; second place, Bianca Adrienne R. Cabradilla; and first place, Mackenzie Sloan.
