Jas 3:8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. The tongue has no conscious. It is not filled with wisdom or compassion. The tongue merely utters what is brought upon it. Since it cannot be tamed we must do our very best to keep our hearts pure and feed our minds with truth and wisdom. Sometimes we may say, “I didn’t mean it.” Well, it may be that we did not mean to say what we said, but we couldn’t say it if we didn’t think it or feel it. It’s great to say we are sorry (if we mean it) but it doesn’t erase the hurt.
Pr 6:2 Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth. All we can say is “guilty.” They are your words so you are responsible for them. That should cause a holy hush in some circles. In many cases we wouldn’t get as many busy signals when trying to make a call.
Lu 6:45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.
Our words are powerful. They are like seeds. Plant good seeds and you can expect a good harvest. It is just as easy, or maybe easier to plant weeds. All they know to do is grow and multiply. Good seed will bring forth that which is good and weeds (evil seeds) will only bring forth that which is evil.
God told us the power of seed in the last book of the Old Testament. Mal 3:13 “Your words have been stout against me, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, What have we spoken so much against thee?” It seems to me we need to be more careful with the seeds we sow. Nobody wants a bad harvest. Job 4:8 Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same.
