Douglas “Wayne” Welch

Douglas “Wayne” Welch, 56, of Clay, entered into his heavenly home Friday, March 1, 2019.

Born on November 28, 1962 at Clay, he was the son of the late General Kenneth “Buck” and Chessie (Keith) Welch of Clay. In addition to his father, Wayne is also preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Otis Lee Welch, Genevie (Bishop) and Wilbur Bucklin; his maternal grandparents, William E. Keith and Glaice (Neal) Keith; brothers, William “Willie” Welch and Larry “David” Welch.

Wayne is survived by his daughters, Marinda Lanham of Charleston and Brittaney Stephenson of Clay; granddaughter, Kylie and grandsons, Remmington and Finley Stephenson; sisters, Patricia Schafstall of Clay and Cindy (Danny) Neal of Clay; sister-in-law, Joan Welch of Clay; nieces and nephews, Samantha (Randall) Brown of Clay, Chelsea (Tony) Welch of Stonewood, Frankie Holcomb of Clay, Jacob (Kelly) Welch of Clay and Kenneth “Kenny” Welch of Clay.

A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, at Wilson-Smith Funeral Home, with Minister Douglas Burdette officiating.  Burial followed at Sunset Cemetery, Bickmore.

Friends gathered with family one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family would like donation be made Hubbard Hospice House of Charleston. On-line condolences may be sent to the family www.carlwilsonfuneralhome.com.

Wilson-Smith Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Welch family.
