Clay County Alumni Luncheon held at Hardings Family Restaurant

They just get better and better, and the older we get the more we enjoy them.

Around 32 alumni and friends attended the fall luncheon at Hardings Family Restaurant on Wednesday, September 18. Some were in the area to attend the Clay County Golden Delicious Festival, but most were regular attendees of the semi-annual luncheons.

There was no lack of enthusiasm and chit-chat as classmates got together to reminisce and catch up. If prizes were given for class attendance, the graduating class of 1950 would have won, but almost every class from 1941 to 1962 was represented.

Those present were Lucille Butler Wilmouth (1952), Lenora Boggs Pettit (1960), Marlene Cooper Potasnik (1947), Norma Crawford Chapman (1950), Arletta Jones Brady (1950) and her daughter Reva Jo Lloyd, Eloise Boggs (1941), Mary King Lawrence (1945), Shirley Carole Pitts (1955), Paul Rodney Burdette (1953), Oliver Arbogast (1949), Zelma Murphy Heater, Inez Murphy Maggio (1947), Billy Clyde Hicks, Janet Burdette Haddox (1950), Sandra Chapman Claybrook (1962), “Deacon” (1943) and Katy Walker (1947) and daughter Shonda Walker Snow, Fleary P. Sam Samples (1954) and wife Greta, Ruth Conrad Walker (1950) and son Steve Walker, Jerry Butcher, Joretta Conrad Butcher, Arlie Fulks (1951), Mintie Fulks (1955), Gene (1959) and Joan McLaughlin, Joyce Samples Dean (1950), Duane Moore (1956), and Christine Moore Beaver (1947).

The consensus of the group was that these semi-annual (traditionally in June and September) events should be continued. The time is right, the location is convenient, and the food and service at Hardings is very good. So, what’s lacking? Representation from younger alumni. Watch for the notice next spring in the Clay County Free Press, and round up your classmates and plan to attend.
