On Monday, November 18th, Lizemore Elementary School’s Local School Improvement Council hosted the Clay County Board of Education’s bi-monthly meeting. Three of the board’s five members were in attendance, along with Superintendent Kenneth Tanner, Assistant-Superintendent Danny Brown, Title I Director Joan Haynie, and Special Education Director Bev Nichols. There was an honorary board member in attendance, also. Miss Shaylee Robinson, a fifth grade student at Lizemore Elementary, sat at the head table and presided over the meeting with her fellow board members.
There was a good turnout for the meeting and several students in fourth and fifth grades were recognized for their 2012 Westest2 scores. The students who received Distinguished in at least one content area or Above Mastery in at least two content areas were presented certificates of achievement by the school board members. There were 12 students who received the certificates in all. Lizemore Elementary School would like to thank the parents and staff who attended the meeting and Mr. Tanner and the school board for their kind words and praise of the education the students at our school are receiving. Mr. Tanner had this to say about Lizemore Elementary, “ Lizemore Elementary School, under the direction of Mrs. Burnette, the Principal, has emerged as one of the best rural elementary schools in West Virginia. The teachers there are focused and effective. Students are dedicated and enthusiastic. The building is very clean and bright. In 2013, Lizemore Elementary students had the best WESTEST scores in the county and some of the highest scores in West Virginia. Parents with whom I have spoken understand that Lizemore Elementary School is a very special place to be. Congratulations to the students, staff, and the parents!”
We have a very positive school board and supportive administration at the county board office and the staff of the school is supportive, as well. Our students are learning and growing everyday at Lizemore Elementary, where Learning Equals Success.
