Proverbs 14:34 says, Righteousness exalts a nation but sin is a reproach to any people. Psalms further states, Blessed is the Nation whose God is Lord – and Psalm 9:17 adds, The wicked shall be turned into hell and all the nations that forget God.
The Lord God of Heaven who hath so lavishly blessed this nation make us thy people to be humble. Keep us ever aware that good things we enjoy have come from thee, that thou didst lend them to us. Impress upon our smugness the knowledge that we are not owners of this land but stewards. Remind us least we become filled with conceit that one day a reckoning will be required of us. King Solomon asked God’s blessing in the Nation of Israel, there was a condition needed to have king Solomon’s prayer answered.
God said in 2 Chronicles 7:14, if my people which are called by name shall humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways (the key words is turn from their wicked ways) then I will hear from Heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Most people have no trouble with praying or seeking God’s blessing. The real problem is that we overlook the phrase and turn from their wicked ways. No amount of praying will correct our problems until we are willing to turn from our wicked ways.
Hosea prayed for the nation of Israel out of love, Hosea 4:1-5. God’s expectations for our nation, for any nation, are no less. Israel’s history shows how a nation can find and lose favor with God and what God will do if people repent and ask to be restored. America has along with other countries, chosen the path of moral corruption. Oh, we still pray occasionally attend church.
In Noah’s day, God sent a world-wide flood to wipe out the extreme violence, lust, and evil imaginations that of man. See Genesis 6:4-7. God’s judgment destroyed the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah for the same reasons violence and lust. See Genesis 19. Romans 1:22-32 and Just 1:7-8. It is difficult to imagine that our world is in better shape today. This great nation we call America needs spiritual healing. You cannot live wrong and die right.
