The Lady Panther softball team ended their season last week in a double elimination sectional tournament. They were pitted against the Lady Grizzlies of Nicholas County and the Minute Maids of Lewis County. One could see from the start that it would be a long tournament for the Lady Panthers.
After dropping the first game to Lewis County by the score of 2-10, it was the Lady Grizzlies up next. Destiny Williams pitched a good game, but the sticks of the Lady Grizzlies got hot, and they scored six runs in the 2nd inning. The Lady Panthers just couldn’t get their game on track, and their bats were silenced by the pitching of the Lady Grizzlies. The Lady Panthers did get six runs in six innings, but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Grizzlies were swinging for the fences. They were shut down after the 2nd inning but started bruising leather later on, scoring nine more runs by the end of the game. Errors in the field caused some of the game’s decay, but there were moments in the fiel
d that the Lady Panthers shined. However, it wasn’t bright enough, and they lost their game 6-14. The Lady Panthers finished 5-16 this year, a tough season looking back, but the team is young and will be back next season to rule the diamond. There’s no doubt they will be stronger, and perhaps next year will yield a different result.
