Madora Rodes Ballard, 96, originally a native of Gauley Bridge, WV died January 19, 2018 at Columbia Cottage in Campbelltown, PA, following a prolonged illness.
She was born on October 15, 1921 in Gatewood, WV, daughter of the late Ira and Lula (McClung) Rodes. In 2003, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, J O. Ballard.
She is survived by her son, Dr. James Ballard and wife, Gretchen of Hummelstown, PA; granddaughters, Sarah Ballard of Hummelstown, PA, and Dr. Elizabeth Lopez of Douglassville, PA; great granddaughters, Maya and Sonya Lopez of Douglassville, PA; her sister, Joella Etchison of Avon Park, FL, cousin, Ethel Shaver, 101, of Charleston, WV; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was pre-deceased by her brothers: Martin, Earl, William and Pete Rodes.
In her community, “Dorie” was known as homemaker, quilt maker and cook extraordinaire. She was devoted to the life of her church, serving as Christian education supervisor, treasurer, choir member and member of the building committee of the Gauley Bridge Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at the Gauley Bridge Baptist Church, Gauley Bridge, WV. Pennington Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her name to Hospice of Central Pennsylvania, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110, or to the Derry Presbyterian Church, 248 East Derry Road, Hershey, PA 17033.
