Elvin Delner Frame, 84, of Charlottesville, VA, died on November 11, 2017, in his home in the loving arms of his wife.
Born October 14, 1933, in Swandale, Clay County, West Virginia, he was the only son of the late Rev. Norman Guy and Radie Taylor Frame. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Patsy Litton, Fonda Butcher and Iris McCormick.
After graduating from Clay County High School in 1952 he began his college education at West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia. In April 1953 he received his draft notice and served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict for the next four years.
After marrying the love of his life, Janice Marie Young, on June 9, 1957, he again enrolled in the WVU School of Forestry. In 1961 he received his B.S. Degree in Forest Management and began a distinguished career with the State of Virginia Forestry Service, now VDOF. He served as a county forester in Fluvanna, Loudon, and Prince William counties. At the time of his retirement he was serving as Utilization and Marketing Specialist for the VDOF. He was known throughout the United States for his expertise in wood and wood products, receiving many accolades during his career. He was a member of The Society of American Foresters for over 50 years, holding local, state and national offices. Elvin was a long time member of the Albemarle Ruritan Club and a devout Christian. He was a dedicated member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and served in nearly every position until his health declined. Elvin had a passion for family genealogy and traced his Frame side of the family back to Scotland. He spent many hours writing about his experiences and the friendships he made while growing up in Swandale during the Depression and World War II. Elvin was a loving man, who always put God and family first.
Elvin is survived by his lifelong sweetheart and wife of 60 years, Janice; his son Timothy Frame (Kathleen) of Bakersfield, Calif.; his daughter Laura Frame Matthews (Carl) of Newsoms, Va.; his beloved grandchildren, Eli Thomas Matthews of Newsoms, Va., Carla Marie Matthews of Nashville, N.C., Ethan Andrew Frame of Woodland Hills, Calif., and Grant Taylor Frame of Vista, Calif.; his sisters, Eva Mullins, Phala Hildebrand, and Mavis Bennett of W.Va., and Rosetta Ayers of Ohio; many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends; his longtime, devoted, and loving care companion Lesley W. Rogers; and his special four-legged best buddy George.
A special thank you to Care Advantage, Dr. Robert Stokes and Sue, and to all the helpers that made Elvin’s final years wonderful in spite of his long illness.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Aldersgate United Methodist. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Clay Memorial Gardens, in Clay, WV.
