Why Did Jesus Spit on the Ground?

By Lee Roy Anderson

When he had thus spoken he spat on the ground and made clay of the spittle and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay. Go wash in the pool of Siloam which is by interpretation sent. He went his way therefore and washed and came seeing. The neighbors therefore and they which before had seen him that he was blind said, is not this he that say and begged? Some said, This is he others said, His is like him but I am he. He answered said, A man that is called Jesus made clay and anointed mine eyes and said unto me, go to the pool of Siloam and washed and I received sight. John 9:6-11.

Why did Jesus spit on the ground? Jews of the first century believed there was healing power in the spittle of the firstborn male of every family. By Jesus action Jesus was testifying to all that he was the firstborn of the Father the only begotten son of God. New as Jesus passed by he saw a man who was blind from birth. And his disciples asked him saying Rabbi who sinned this man or his parents that he was born blind? John 9:1-2. The disciples had been trained as young men in the mosaic law which taught that God visits the iniquity of the fathers upon the Children and the children’s children to the third and fourth generation. Exodus 34:7 Jesus answered, Neither this man nor his parents sinned but that the works of God should be revealed in him. I must work the works of Him who sent me while it is day the night is coming when no one can work. As long as I am in the world I am the light of the world. John 9:1-5.

The word Life Believe Jesus is the pre-existent eternal word who became a man. In order to gain eternal life one must believe upon the name of Jesus – Jesus who always was with God and indeed is God. Jesus Christ paid the supreme price to heal people. The Holy Spirit gives us an eternal peace which the world cannot manufacture or purchase. When we pray to God we pray unto him that is able. He is able to provide food to the hungry, drink to the thirsty protection and shelter from the storms of life. He is able to provide for us not just a house but a home? He is able to give us good health or to heal us when the health is not so good. Yes, his is able! Our God is able to heal our body, mind and soul as well as cancer, depression and sin? Take time to praise God today. The one who is able a smile to our faces. Thank God for the friends with whom we can share our joy, sorrow, pain and  victories, friends who car enough to call and check in at just the right time. You cannot live wrong and die right.
