County commission recognizes Morgan Triplett

The Clay County Commission met for regular session on Wednesday, Oct. 25, in the County Commission room at the Courthouse.

The county commission meeting started out a little different this time. With the recent retirement of long-time ambulance worker and county volunteer Morgan Triplett, he was recognized for his service and presented with a plaque. All to his surprise, after the meeting everyone celebrated with Mr. Triplett with cake, ice cream, and punch.

The meeting began with the approval of the previous meeting minutes. A motion to approve the bills and purchase orders as presented was approved. A motion to approve erroneous assessments as presented by the assessor was approved. A motion to approve a budget revision for the Sheriff-Treasurer, County Commission and Courthouse was approved. A motion to approve the appointment of Maysel Marie Truman, Administratrix CTA of the estate of Lawrence Denver Truman, deceased, was approved. A motion to confirm probating the Last Will and Testament of Kenneth Gustave Butcher and the appointment of Michael Butcher, Executor was approved. A motion to approve the appointment of Viola Ardelle Morton, Administratrix of the estate of Allen Kester Morton, deceased, was approved.

A motion to approve the appointment of Judith H. Buzzard, Administratrix of the estate of Jody Thomas, deceased, was approved. A motion to confirm probating the Last Will and Testament of Maxine J. O’Brien, aka Jacquita Maxine O’Brien, deceased, and the appointment of Dorma Sue Adkins, executrix, was approved. A motion to confirm probating the Last Will and Testament of Hobert G. Cook, deceased, and the appointment of Dollie A. Cook, Executrix, was approved. A motion to approve the appointment of Rachel Dawn Fredeking, Administratrix of the estate of Robby John Douglas, deceased, was approved. A motion to approve the appointment of Neketa McLaughlin, Administratrix of the estate of Clarence Shaffer, deceased, was approved. A motion to confirm probating the Last Will and Testament of Marmell O’Brien, deceased and the appointment of Mary Beth Taylor, Executrix was approved. A motion to approve a “Request of Waiver of Final Settlement” for the estate of James Alfred Duffield and Jackie Lee Watkins, deceased, was approved.

A motion to approve Section 3 Plan for HUD application was approved. A motion to approve a Citizen participation plan for HUD application was approved. A motion to approve a Housing Needs Assessment for HUD application was approved. A motion to approve a Memorandum of Understanding between Clay, Calhoun, and Roane on Broadband Committee was approved. A motion to designate October 31, 2017 as Trick-or-Treat night for Clay County from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. was approved. A motion to accept Kenneth Tanner’s resignation as a member of the Clay County Deputy Sheriff’s Civil Service Board effective October 13, 2017 was approved. A motion to hire Christina Gray as a part-time as needed dispatcher for Clay County E911Communications Center at the rate of $10 per hour and without benefits was approved. Her employment will be effective October 25, 2017 pending successful completion of a background check and drug screening. A motion to approve the employment of Jonathan Holcomb as a Deputy Sheriff effective October 23, 2017 was approved. His rate of pay will be $1,875 per month.

Morgan Triplett also received a quilt as a gift.
