The Clay County Board of Education held a regular scheduled board meeting on July 24, 2017.
A motion to approve the agenda was approved. A motion to approve the minutes from the previous meeting was approved. a motion to approve the employment of Kimberly Carroll as assistant cross country coach at Clay Middle School was approved. A motion to approve the employment of Greg Knopp as assistant football coach at Clay Middle School was approved. a motion to approve the employment of Greg Knopp as assistant boys basketball coach at Clay Middle School was approved. a motion to approve the employment of Tara Grose as special needs transportation aide – extra duty contract was approved. A motion to approve Loretta Triplett as full time cook for Band Camp located at Holly Gray Park in Flatwoods – July 30, 2017 – August 4, 2017 was approved. A motion to approve the employment of James Brooks Legg as multi-categorical alternative learning center teacher at Clay Middle School was approved.
A motion to approve Tetrick and Barlett, PLLC to perform the fiscal year 2017 audit was approved. A motion to approve H.E. White Elementary School Greenhouse Lease Agreement between David S. Derby and Julia J. Triplett and the Clay County Board of Education was approved. A motion to amend the hiring date of Leslie Goe as Clay County Middle School Principal from December 1, 2017 to July 11, 2017 was approved. A motion was approved to amend the hiring date of Eric Legg as Assistant Principal at Clay County Middle School from December 1, 2017 to July 11, 2017 was approved. A motion to approve the Clay County Schools Parent Involvement Policy was approved. A motion to approve the transfer of Pepper McCormick from Clay County Schools to attend school in Calhoun County for the 2017-2018 school year was approved.
The Board of Education then recognized a few retirees who were able to attend the Board of Education Meeting.
Dude Cohen retired from Clay County Schools as a bus driver. He was hired in 1991 and served the county for 24 years. He was hired in 1993 as a full time bus driver. He also worked as a handy man, trip coordinator, and service personnel president during his time. Thank you, Mr. Cohen for your many years of dedication and caring for the Children of Clay County.
Wayne Litton was also recognized for his service with Clay County Schools. He was hired in 1992 as a substitute bus driver and then hired full time as a bus driver in 1995 until 2006 when he became a bus mechanic. Mr. Litton was the 2011 Service personnel recipient. Thank you for your 22 years of dedication and caring for the Children of Clay County.
Val Facemire was also honored during the Board of Education Meeting. She was an employee for Clay County Schools for 30 years. She started at Dille Elementary in 1981 and finished her time at Clay County High School. Thank you, Mrs. Facemire for your many years of dedication and caring for the Children of Clay County.
