Charleston spay/neuter office is open and scheduling appointments

Fix Charleston is now open to the public and taking appointments. To schedule an appointment, call 304-342-5660. Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association’s (KCHA) Fix Charleston clinic offers low-cost, high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter (HQHVSN) and wellness care to any dog or cat in our region. Traditional low-cost programs are limited by circumstance; Fix Charleston will offer services regardless of income or county of residence.

Do you live outside of Kanawha County? Can’t afford spay/neuter, vaccinations, or deworming at a private veterinarian? No problem.

Led by Dr. Paul Fleming, a skilled veterinarian experienced in HQHVSN who has cared for pets in the Kanawha Valley for more than 10 years, Fix Charleston is located on the lower-level of KCHA’s Greenbrier Street facility. Since KCHA opened its in-house clinic last spring, Fleming has partnered with Dr. Jamie Totten to spay/neuter shelter pets before adoption. Due to limited time and resources, KCHA’s veterinary services have been limited to shelter pets only. That is no longer the case

The impact will be immense. Did you know KCHA provides care to 2,500 kittens and puppies annually? Fix Charleston is equipped to provide HQHVSN and wellness care to 8,750 animals per year! By increasing the number of vaccinated community pets and reducing unwanted litters, KCHA’s admissions will decrease and its population will be healthier and happier. Finally, Fix Charleston’s proceeds will benefit KCHA’s lifesaving programs.

At this time, only one HQHVSN program operates in the region. Help for Animals performs approximately 14,000 surgeries per year in their Barboursville facility. While the value of their service is phenomenal, the distance from Charleston is a barrier to participation.

Fix Charleston is a program of Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association, a not-for-profit organization classified as tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. To contribute to Fix Charleston and/or Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association, go to adoptcharleston.com/give or call (304) 342-1576 ext. 124. Naming rights for Fix Charleston’s clinic, surgical suite, admissions center, lobby, and exam rooms are available.

Call 304-342-5660 to schedule an appointment and follow Fix Charleston on Facebook for the latest updates.
