Lee Roy Anderson

Laziness has an effect on us.

We see laziness all around us and it has an effect on us as well. But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone and not in another. Laziness is very prominent in our world today. Proverbs 26:13-16 says, the slothful man saith there is a lion in the way a lion is in the street. As the door turneth upon his hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed. The slothful hideth his hand in his bosom, it grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth. The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.

I think that it is a shame that we that work pay the way for those that do not work, the lazy. Hear the words of Solomon again on this subject of the lazy. Go to the ant, thou sluggard, consider her way and be wise. Which having no guide, overseer or ruler, provideth her meat in the summer and gathereth her food in the harvest. How long wilt thou sleep, o sluggard? When wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? Yet a little sleep a little folding of the hands to sleep. So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth and thy want as an armed man.

I want us to notice today the trait of laziness is very prominent in our world today. God ordained work from the beginning. Adam was told to work the garden. Moses was busy with the flock now kept. David was caring for his father’s sheep. There is nothing better for a man than that he should eat and drink and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labour. Eccl. 2:24. There is no easy way work is an opportunity? It seems strange that what built this country-hard work and real success, is becoming distorted today and the idea that work is outdated.  Many like leisure time and no work at all but this is not the answer.

It is better to get your hands dirty and starve. Prov. 12:24. Yes, I know that. Matthew 6:26 says Behold the fowls of the air for they sow not nether do they reap nor gather into barns, yet your heavenly father feedeth them. Are we not much better than they. God gives every bird a worm but he does not throw it into the nest. That doesn’t mean we get what we need by doing nothing. Birds must scratch and search for food. The point is they don’t worry about it. When the outlook is bad, trying the uplook the worst from failure is failure to try. Remember, work is an opportunity.
