October is national Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the YWCA Resolve Family Abuse Program’s Clay County office is planning and participating in numerous events and observances designed to raise awareness of the tragic toll domestic violence takes on our communities.
One of the most visible events, the annual Clay County candlelight vigil, will begin at 5 pm on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at the entrance to the Clay County Courthouse. The community is invited to participate as we remember victims; support survivors, and recognize and thank our local law enforcement and judicial partners who are working with us to eliminate domestic violence. Serving Kanawha, Boone and Clay counties, the YWCA Resolve Family Abuse Program provides emergency shelter; court and legal advocacy; counseling and support groups; programs for children and assistance with parenting, housing, education, transportation, employment and relocation for victims of domestic violence. Additionally, a batterers intervention and prevention program is offered. In fiscal year 2012-13, YWCA Resolve served 2,667 individuals.
The YWCA Resolve Clay County office is located in the courthouse on Main Street, the site of the Oct. 22 candlelight vigil. Inside the courthouse, next to Family Court, anyone who is seeking information, services or refuge from domestic violence may either visit with the YWCA Resolve staff person on duty or call any of these three helplines:
