The Clay County Business Development Authority has chosen its Business of the Month for December as Rene’s Fabric and Gift Shop.

Owned and operated by Rene Moore, the shop is located at 594 Main Street in Clay underneath the “Tales of the Elk River Inn” and offers a wide selection of sewing and piece goods, crafting items, and a unique array of antique dinnerware and gifts. During cleanup efforts from the devastating flood of June 2016 and after the shop had also been flooded, a relief station was set up at the location, providing flood victims with free cleaning supplies and volunteer help. For more information, call 304-587-7411 or check out the Facebook page: Rene’s Fabric-Gifts.

If you’ve ever driven around town and caught a quick glimpse of the popular Tow Mater truck or the flashy Lightening McQueen race car, you’ve probably noticed a sudden grin on your face.

In fact, the dynamic duo is enough to turn any frown upside-down. Jody Stutler, local owner of the two whimsical automobiles, doesn’t hide these gems in a garage away from the public but showcases them for all the world to see.

Stutler, who is well-known for displaying his machines at events all over West Virginia, has been spotted (and photographed) up and down the east coast.

Wherever he is seen with them, he always draws a crowd. All who know him say he is a kind and warm-hearted man who works hard and gives a lot more than he takes.

Stutler, was nominated by someone in Clay County who thought he deserved to be in the spotlight. “He drove all the way to Georgia because a little boy who has a brain injury liked Lightening … so sweet!” stated the nominator. Congratulations on being the CCBDA’s Citizen of the Month for December 2016. May the new year bring more smiles your way!

Do you know of a person or business that has gone above and beyond what is normally expected of them? Do they give to their county? Are they always sacrificing their time or money to make our county great? Nominate them! Here’s how: call the CCBDA office and leave a nominee’s name or business name and short message explaining why they should be considered.

Please keep your message at one minute or less. One message per caller. Call 304-587-4166 to leave your nomination.
