The CCMS wrestling team is back in the headlines.
The Mustang team was mustered once again after a rough season last year. CCMS wrestling is and has been a powerhouse on the mat. The Mustangs are on the mat and bringing their hunger to get back at the top of the food chain in the world of wrestling thanks to new head coach TJ Legg and volunteer assistant Bob Morris.
They have resurrected the beast within the walls of CCMS.  Due to the flood, the CCMS team lost their practice room and are practicing on less than a half mat in the cafeteria at the school. Even with this set back, the team is ignoring the handicap and taking their fight to the floor instead of whining about what they can’t change. However, a new practice mat has been ordered for the team, but they will still have to practice in the cafeteria until a suitable area is found.
The Mustangs took to the mats at the Grizzly Duals held at the Nicholas County High School. Wrestlers from Summersville, Richwood, Eastern Greenbrier, Shady Spring, Webster County and Ansted, six of the toughest middle school teams, came to grapple.
The Mustangs came together in what would prove to be an old fashioned whip down. There was plenty of great wrestling to go around. The Mustangs hit the mat with some experienced — and some who have not wrestled competitively, but who brought guts and determination. When the mats were cleared, the CCMS Mustangs came home with the First Place trophy. They have brought back the fire of the teams of old.
The Mustangs will be back in action in Beckley this weekend; check the schedule for the time and place. The coaches urge the fans to come out and support the team in force so that the glory days of wrestling will return once again to the hallowed halls of CCMS.  Give no quarter and ask for none in return Mustangs, welcome back to the toughest sport on the floor.
In other wrestling news, the CCHS Panthers also took to the mats at the Grizzly Duals in Summersville. Ten high school teams from around the area came to compete. The Panthers went into this match without a full team; the Panther team, of course, will not win against a full team simply because of the matches they have to forfeit. However, the Panther team took it to the floor and came out with Third Place.
The Panthers will only get better as the season moves on. They have new wrestlers who want to make CCHS wrestling great again, and if fate has its way, within the next couple of years the CCHS Panther wrestling team will once again dominate every match as they once did. Even with the handfull of wrestlers that the Panthers have, the quality is through the roof. We look for great things out of this team as the season rolls on.
