Deborah Johnston, owner and CEO of Richmond, Virginia-based company, Care Advantage, Inc., and for whom Clay County native, Ben Fitzwater, is the executive assistant, will be featured on the August 18th, 2013 episode of ABC’s Secret Millionaire. Each episode of: this ABC show follows a millionaire for one week as he or she lives and volunteers in communities in need around the country. During their week stay, the secret millionaires conceal their true identity until the dramatic climax on the last day, when the secret is revealed and the millionaires award a great deal of their own money to deserving individuals whom they have found are making a difference and helping others.
Johnston’s secret journey began when a camera crew arrived in Richmond, Virginia spending time capturing the everyday life of the self- made millionaire, from her home in Chesterfield County to her business, Care Advantage, Inc., where the sign above the door reads, “Good Business Sense Comes From the Heart.” From there, Johnston left to embark on the life-changing part of her journey, traveling to the crime-stricken streets of Richmond, California. During her week-long stay, Johnston lived in local housing with a very meager allotted income. Her true identity was kept hidden, as she volunteered at three not-for-profit organizations. At the end of the week, Johnston revealed her true identity and surprised these unsung community heroes, impacting lives forever.
Fitzwater, a 2000 graduate of Clay County High School, began working for Deborah Johnston in 2009. He has served as her executive assistant for three years. His nomination of Johnston led to her being selected to appear on the show. Clay County High School English teacher, Lisa Arnold, worked as the editor throughout the application process.
