As we all know, the football season started off a little rough and the season was plagued from the beginning with problems with the flood. However, the Panthers were on a three-game winning streak going into the matchup between the Panthers and the Highlanders.
The Panthers wanted to go out on a good note, and they didn’t disappoint anybody. This game will go down as one of the best defensive games they have played. On both sides of the coin, the defense was tough, not allowing either side much of an advantage.
The Highlanders struck first on a touchdown run and kicked an extra point making the score 0-7 going into the half. After that, gaining yards was like pushing a log chain. It wasn’t until late in the third quarter that a perfect pass from Alex Grose to Ryan Burdette across the middle gave the Panthers great field position.
This gave the Panthers an opportunity to score, and they did just that. Isaac Workman scored the extra points making the score in the game Panthers 8, Highlanders 7. It was back to defense after that, and with less than a minute on the boards, the Highlanders were inside the Panther 10 yard line and goal to go.
After a time out, the Panther defense dug in and stopped any advancement for three downs. With one down left for the Highlanders tension was thick as pudding on the field. The Highlanders decided to go for the field goal. However, the field goal was faked and the Highlanders tried a pass in the end zone, which proved to be a fatal mistake as the Panther defense performed a textbook goal line stance winning the game 8-7.
It was one of the best games they have played all year, and it will be remembered as one of the best goal line stances a defense could do. Congratulations to the Panther football team on finishing out the season with a win, and more than that you earned respect and set the standard for the 2017 Panther football team.
