By Allen Hamrick

On October 26, the best and brightest third, fourth and fifth grade math students from the four elementary schools in Clay County met at the CCHS auditorium to put it all on the line.
This academic event is held annually to honor the memory of Hugh Boggs, a Clay County educator and administrator who always encouraged students to think mathematically and be able to answer math questions quickly and accurately.
Each elementary school sent two participants per grade level, one to compete in the oral section and one to compete in the written section. This event is an opportunity to prove the academic prowess that our students are well known for.
The oral competition winners are: Third Grade – Fourth Place, Jonathan Gandee from H.E. White, Third Place, Ember Chapman from Big Otter, Second Place, Ilyauna Evans from Lizemore and First Place, Shane Tracy from Clay; Fourth Grade – Fourth Place, Patrick Boggs from H.E. White, Third Place, Noah Collins from Big Otter, Second Place, Brianna Adkins from Clay and First Place, Tyler Waugh from Lizemore; Fifth Grade – Fourth Place, Nathan Wynn from Lizemore, Third Place, Olivia Matheson from H.E. White, Second Place Issac Brown from Clay and First Place, Maddie Gill from Big Otter. The written competition winners are: Third Grade – Fourth Place, Caden Berry from Big Otter, Third Place, Christian Bryant from H.E. White, Second Place, Katie Price from Lizemore and First Place, Luke Hill from Clay; Fourth Grade – Fourth Place, Delila Burkhammer from Clay, Third Place, Hollie Conley from H.E. White, Third Place, Haley Chapman from Big Otter, Second Place, Dylan McCumbers from Clay and First Place, B.J. Williams from Lizemore.
Also, Lizemore Elementary and Clay Elementary tied in the competition for the traveling trophy that is awarded each year to the school with the highest number of points overall and will each host the trophy for half of the remaining days of school this year.
Congratulations to these young students for their accomplishments. They are the future, and I am sure you will hear their names frequently as the years go by.
