During the inaugural Clay County High School Hall of Fame Ceremony on Saturday. Sept. 17, it was announced Randy Samples was the lucky raffle winner of a custom Clay County High School Corn Hole Set. The raffle drew more than 800 entries which were sold during Clay County’s Apple Festival. People paid $1 each to enter the raffle and the sponsors made nearly $534 in support of Clay County High School’s Athletic Hall of Fame Program.
Samples may not have been inducted into the CCHS Athletic Hall of Fame but he will be associated with it anyway because of this win. When shown his prize, Samples commented that he didn’t believe he had ever won anything in his life!
The first class ever to be inducted into the CCHS Athletic Hall of Fame notably included Robert Clay Pugh, Class of 1926; Coach Hazel Shearer; Coach Ron Sirk, Class of 19634; Laverne “Bunny” Taylor, Class of 1980; and Eric Workman, Class of 2004. The Athletic Hall of Fame Board of Directors include: Larry Gillespie, president; Jerry Linkinoggor, vice-president; Greg Gency, secretary; John Coulter, treasurer; Buck Davis, Mary Ramsey, Bobby Stover and Bunny Taylor. Anyone interested may nominate an athlete, coach or contributor to CCHS athletic program by completing a nomination form available at the Clay County Bank or claycountyschools.org.
