The Graduating Class of 2016 from Clay County High School has received their high school diplomas on May 28, 2016. In the class of 2016, George Wilkinson was Valedictorian. George is the son of George and Julia Wilkinson. George will be attending West Virginia University and will be majoring in Biomedical Engineering. During his years in school, Ms. Coulter was the teacher who impacted his life the most. His most memorable experience was competing in the state/national chemistry Olympic. George’s plan for the future is to become a successful doctor.
Salutatorian in the Class of 2016 was Emily Wynn. Emily is the daughter of Shane and Jodi Wynn. Emily will be attending Bob Jones University and will be majoring in Biochemistry. Her plans for the future are to obtain a degree and then pursue either a graduate degree or obtain a job in her career field. She also hopes to start a family. During her school years her most memorable experience was becoming 2nd runner up in Volleyball and her mother impacted her life the most.
Ranked number three, Jonathan Burnside shared the spot with Logan Knopp. Jonathan is the son of Thomas and Robin Burnside. He will be attending West Virginia University and will be majoring in Pharmacy. Jonathan’s most memorable experience during his high school years was going to Washington D.C. with the TSA. Mrs. Hubbard is the teacher who impacted him the most, because she was always giving good advice and was a devoted teacher and friend. Jonathan’s plan for the future is to get his degree in Pharmacy, as well as a degree in business in hopes of one day owning his own pharmaceutical company. We did not get information from Logan Knopp, unfortunately.
Isabelle Haverty is ranked number four in the top ten. She is the daughter of Alison and Ronzel Haverty. Isabelle will be attending Berea College in Kentucky and will be majoring in Philosophy. Ms. Patricia Coulter is the teacher who impacted her the most during school. Her most memorable experience during her high school years was state volleyball championship game, getting runner up. Her plan for the future is to become a lawyer.
Stefani Duffield was ranked fifth in her class. She is the daughter of Lori and Glenn Duffield. She will be attending college at West Virginia University and she will major in Biology. Stefani stated that Melody Hubbard was the teacher who impacted her the most during school. Mrs. Hubbard was completely supportive of her decisions and a shoulder to lean on, and she is overall a great person! During her high school years, placing 2nd in the state at the volleyball state tournament was her most memorable experience. Her plans for the future are to obtain a master’s degree in Biology and become a research scientist on genetic diseases.
Ranked sixth is Alex Taylor. Alex is the son of Michael and Angela Taylor. Alex will be attending Marshall University and majoring in Mechanical Engineering. Mrs. Tara Tanner is the teacher who impacted him the most for always being a supportive friend and teacher. His most memorable experience was the baseball season and the time spent with his friends. His plan for the future is to love the work he pursues in the engineering field.
Noah Taylor was ranked number seven in the 2016 graduating class. Jamie and Jo Taylor are Noah’s parents. Noah will be attending Marshall University and will major in Mechanical Engineering. Ms. Coulter always pushed him to do his best, always had high expectations for him and impacted him the most during school. His most memorable experience was placing 5th at National Competition in System Control in TSA. In the future he hopes to be designing and developing products that may have an impact on society.
Zachary Ahart is ranked number eight in his class. He is the son of Rick and Stephanie Ahart. He will be attending West Virginia University and majoring in Business. Damon Grose is the coach who impacted him the most during school. The coach always believed in him and had high expectations for him. His most memorable high school experience was breaking the school rushing record in football this year. Zachary’s plans for the future are hopes to be a successful business man and make a positive impact.
Casandra Sampson is ranked number nine. She is the daughter of Neil Mullins. Casandra will be attending West Virginia University and her major will be pharmacy. Mr. Nestor always looked out for her and taught her a lot about life. Her most memorable experience was AP GOPO Nationals in 2015. Her future plans are to graduate WVU and go to Colorado to work in pharmacy.
Ranked number ten is Ruth Hundley. She is the daughter of Daniel and Susan Hundley. She will be attending Fairmont State University and is majoring in nursing. Ms. Coulter impacted her the most during school. Her most memorable experience was going to Washington D.C. for national GOPO Competition. Her future plans are to graduate from Fairmont with a bachelor’s degree in nursing and work in a hospital.
