On May 10, 2016 the election for Clay County’s new Board of Education members, County Commissioners, County Assessor, Sheriff, and the 16th Family Court District-Div 1 for Clay and Nicholas Counties took place.
There were no Republican Party candidates on the ballot for this election season. The candidates for each county office seat were as follows:
Clay County Commission candidates were Fran King, and Dana Holcomb.
Fran defeated her opponent with a ballot count of 1,030, while Mr. Holcomb came in with a count of 669 votes.
County Assessor candidates were Teresa Davis, Peter Triplett, Morgan Gibson, and Davy Samples. Mrs. Davis won the ballot with 813 votes, while Peter came in with 633, Morgan with 176, and Davy with 133 votes.
Sheriff candidates were Donny Triplett, Robert Belt, Randy Holcomb, and Shane Morton. Donny Triplett won with a vote count of 788 votes to Robert’s 403, Randy’s 292, and Shane’s 281 votes.
Clay County Board of Education candidates were David Pierson Jr., Susan Markle-Bodkins, Beth Brown Cercone, Connie Ramsey, and Anthony Helms. David Pierson Jr. was re-elected as a member with 1,202 votes. Susan Markle-Bodkins received a count of 853. Both defeated their opponents. Beth received 788, Connie received 607, and Anthony received 218 votes.
16th Family Court District candidates were William “Brad” Dorsey, Kenneth J. “Ken” Barnett, and Angela Walker- Cantrell. Brad Dorsey won the election with a total of 3,229 votes defeating Ken who received 2,847, and Angela with 2,491.
