Rain has sure played hob with sports this week and caused some games to either be delayed or postponed. This was the case with the CCHS Lady Panther softball team who was heading into their sectional tournament. The game was supposed to start early in the week but kept being put off until another day and was finally played on Friday at Braxton. The game was originally supposed to be played at Nicholas County. However, the Lady Panthers did manage to get a double header in with the AAA Capitol Cougars, albeit a rainy one. The rain poured down as the Lady Panthers took it to the Cougars short gaming them both games by the scores of 10-0 and 15-5. Lydia Lynch started the game and showed why she is a force coming off the bench. Lynch went 5-6 in the games with a double and 5 RBI’s. She also scored four runs. Destiny Williams was also hot with the bat going 3-6 with 2 walks, 3 RBI’s, 3 stolen bases, and 4 runs scored. Sarah Boggs went 3-5 with a double, 4 runs, 4 walks, and 5 RBI’s. Kyla Smith pitched five innings, gave up only one hit and struck out seven to get her 11th and 12th wins of the season. Again, the Lady Panthers finally played the sectional game on Friday night at Braxton and since the games were started late, instead of the normal double elimination, it was changed to single elimination so that they could get all the games played. The Lady Panthers drew Nicholas County in the first round, and the game was neck and neck at the bottom of the fourth inning with Clay up. Unfortunately, the Lady Panthers could not get the key hits to score the runs and left runners on the board. Nicholas County, with two outs, scored seven of the eight runs they had in the game and went on to defeat the Lady Panthers by the score of 0-8 ending the season for the Lady Panthers. Nevertheless, the Lady Panthers ended the season on a good note finishing up with a 14-13 record for the year. It was a great season with a lot of action, and the Lady Panthers were a force to reckon with.
