Hello. I now live in South Carolina but my family history goes back to 1743 in Clay County. I have been aware that the knowledge of medicinal herbs and plants that were used by my family is being lost. My mother prided herself that she knew of many that were taught her by a grandmother. The list she made has been long lost. I think it would be a wonderful contribution for your newspaper to begin a column asking for residents to contribute all remedies that were an important part of their history. Possibly even collaboration with the historical society would create interest. The only two plants I learned were Mullen which you dry and make a tea. Using this prevented coughs. Second herb was tansy tea which my aunt used as a child in Clay for various maladies.
