Local foods buyer-grower exhibition, October 23d, 1:30-5:00 PM at the Big Sandy Conference Center located in Huntington. The event is intended to serve as a mixer for interested buyers and sellers of locally produced farm products.  Organizers are currently seeking both buyers and growers from the region (including southern WV, the Kanawha Valley and northern adjoining counties) to participate. Please note that the intended buyer audience for this is commercial-scale end-markets, rather than home consumers.]

Fall Revival at Elk River Baptist Church, Rt. 4 South of I-79 Exit 51, Frametown October 7 through October 11 at 7 pm. The Evangelist will be Curt Davis. There will be special singers nightly. We invite you to come out and worship with us in praising our Lord and Savior. Brace Cook, Pastor.

The Friends and Family of Michelle Belt will be hosting a benefit Sing on October 12 from 2 till 5 at the Clay County High School Auditorium. Most of you will remember Michelle from her many years of employment at Dr. James Office. Her husband is Keith Belt of Dog Run. Singing at the benefit will be The Representatives Quartet, Mt State Baptist Youth Choir & Jason Belt. All proceeds will go to Michelle Belt who is currently battling Stage 4 Breast Cancer. Come out and enjoy great music and refreshments! Food and admission will be by donation. If you are a member of the 1953 graduating class of Clay Co. H.S. and did not attend the reunion of Sept. 21, please be informed that a memory book is planned. Clay County Board of Education now accepting applications for Substitute Custodian. Applications may be picked up at the Board of Education office between the hours of 8 am and 3 pm. For more information contact Kenneth Tanner, Superintendent of Clay County Schools at 587-4266. Application due date October 18, 2013. All applicants must have high school diploma or GED. Selected applicants must successfully pass the required WV School Employees Comp0etency Test for Custodians. Substitute Custodians will keep buildings clean and free of refuse and grounds (mowing, weed eating), operate heating and cooling systems, make minor repairs. Must be able to lift a kminimum of 50 pounds and assist in maintaining a safe work environment. Application due date October 18, 2013

Central WV Aging Services Health Fair and Flu Clinic, October 10, 7:30 am to 1 pm at Braxton County Armory in Gassaway. Cost of labs to individuals will be $10 for comprehensive Metabolic Panel, Lipid Panel, Complete Blood Count and TSH. PSA test and A1c are $3 each. Flu vaccines are free. Sam Samples Cemetery at Procious is still in need of donations as there has been little response after several weeks of advertising. Those of us with relatives and loved ones in the cemetery have a collective responsibility to maintain grounds including mowing and weed eating, tree trimming, etc. There are a faithful few who send donations but this is not sufficient to cover maintenance. GED TESTING The GED test is FREE to anyone. However, candidates must first pass an OPT Practice Test and obtain a test ticket prior to taking the official GED test. You may contact the SPOKES/Adult Basic Education Instructor, Lisa Hamrick, at the Valley Fork Center located at Wallback at 587-1191 for additional information about GED classes or to schedule a time to take the practice test and to get your test ticket. Additional information is also available online at clayadultlearningcenter.weebly.com. Learn more and take advantage of this great opportunity! The GED test is changing January 2, 2014. All 2002 Series GED Test scores for partial test completers will expire on December 31, 2013. This means that, if you are a GED candidate who has taken the test anytime since 2002 but has not passed all five parts of the test, you will need to complete your testing by December 31, 2013 or start all over again in 2014 with the new GED test.

If you are a foreign veteran interested in helping making the community we live in a better place, then the VFW is the organization that you are looking for. The VFW is now in need of the younger generation of combat veterans to start taking the reins of the organization. It is a very rewarding brother/sister hood if you are willing to put sometime into some of the projects the post is involved in. We look forward to seeing you at the post hall. HE White Elementary is having their Fall Carnival on Saturday, October 26th from 6-9:00 PM So please put on your best costume and come out and have a spooktacular good time with us.

There will be a gospel sing on Saturday, October 12 at 5:00 pm at Rogers Fork Church in Newton. Special singers will include Crimson Stream, The Believers, Rev. Dewey Tanner and the Parsons Brothers, Quindora Dobbins and Avis Ryan. Come enjoy this special event with us!
