Benefit spaghetti dinner sponsored by Nebo Baptist Church at the Big Otter Community Building on Sunday May 18, 2014 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm. Take out trays will also be available upon request. The dinner is being held to support Heather Miller at The Center for Global Action, as she continues her missionary work in Atlanta, Georgia.

Parents As Teachers Program will sponsor Vera Bradley/Thirty One Bingo, May 17 at 6:00 pm at the Big Otter Fire Department, Big Otter. Doors open at 5:00 pm. 15 games for $20. Big Otter Fire Department will be selling concessions. This Bingo will assist Parents as Teachers Program – Free and voluntary program offered to families in Clay County – Birth to 5 years of age. All money collected will be used for activities and events with families. There will be an Early Bird drawing if you purchase your ticket early. Boating Education Class for Braxton & Clay Counties on May 18, 2014 from 1 pm to 8 pm. at the Monongahela Power Building near Gassaway, WV. Students must attend all hours, both days. This is a 7-hour course and students must attend all sessions to be certified. In 1998 West Virginia passed legislation that requires any person born after December 31, 1985 to successfully complete an approved Boating Education Course before operating a motorboat or PWC in the State of West Virginia. The course is open to the public and is free of charge. Any age individual may attend, however only students at least 11 years of age that have passed the test will receive a certificate of completion. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or responsible adult. Class size is limited so pre-registration is required. If you would like to register or need additional information, please contact the WV DNR District 3 office at 304-924-6211,Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 am and 4:30 pm.

Sam Samples Cemetery at Procious is still in need of donations as there has been little response after several weeks of advertising. Those of us with relatives and loved ones in the cemetery have a collective responsibility to maintain grounds including mowing and weed eating, tree trimming, etc. There are a faithful few who send donations but this is not sufficient to cover maintenance. If you are a foreign combat veteran interested in helping make the community we live in a better place, then the VFW is the organization that you are looking for. The VFW is now in need of the younger generation of combat veterans to start taking the reins of the organization. It is a very rewarding brother/sister hood if you are willing to put some time into some of the projects the post is involved in. We look forward to seeing you at the post hall.
