Christmas at the courthouse

It’s the time of year again when the Clay County courthouse comes alive with Christmas spirit. The main corridor of the building was filled with excited little ones on Thursday as Clay Elementary preschoolers made the annual journey to decorate the trees lining the hallways of the county’s courthouse. Class by class, each child hung their very own handmade ornament on the tree, mystified as they passed the singing Santa at the Assessor’s office. The children’s tiny voices sang renditions of “Jingle Bells” as they enjoyed hot cocoa and cookies.
Friday’s frigid temperatures in the teens didn’t stop the competitive spirit of the county’s fifth grade class. Armed with weeks-worth of handmade decorations and ornaments, students from H.E. White, Big Otter, Lizemores and Clay Elementary traveled to the courthouse square to decorate their own themed tree in hopes of being this year’s winner. Once the tinsel and ribbons were hung, H.E. White was voted as the winner of the annual contest. A special treat of hot cocoa and cookies was served
